Most Popular Cosmetic Surgeries

Like anything else in time, cosmetic surgery transforms and evolves. With surgery such as gastric bypass and stomach constricting bands, cosmetic surgery is on the rise. People are taking life serious and therefore requiring more than just the usual make me pretty makeovers. We’ve ridiculed celebrities for years because they had a nose job, or tummy tuck. Now, cosmetic surgery is a natural way of life. Men make up almost 1/3 of the procedures.

It all started with rhinoplasty. It was originally performed to get rid of humps and bumps, or to reshape the tip of the nose. But now it is used to widen nostrils for better breathing.

Then, we entered an area that most consider taboo. Breast augmentation was meant to give flat chested women a better sense of pride and boost self esteem. However, it has become a phenomenon for other reasons such as reconstructive surgery after breast cancer or even to alleviate back pains by providing a lift. Men also can benefit from this surgery to correct a condition called Gynecomastia.

Liposuction became a popular way to lose pounds and inches in just a few hours. The procedure is one of the easiest to perform. A large tube is inserted in the area then sucks out the fat. Surgeons can do multiple areas in one procedure.

Finally, with mass weight loss comes excessive skin. Surgery like gastric bypass and constricting bands have more than quadrupled since they were conceived in the early 1990’s. These types of surgeries cause the body to lose weight quickly, so the skin does not have time to shrink or tone. This can leave excess skin in many body parts affecting the arms, legs, and torso. Full body tucks or tummy tucks are becoming an increasingly popular cosmetic surgery. Large amounts of skin are removed and reformed to a more fitting appearance.
