Playing Straight Online

Playing Straight Online By B. Butler Watching poker on TV makes it look a lot of the time like there’s so many wild moves you need to have up your sleeve. Restealing, bluffing, explicit knowledge of your poker opponents gestures, table images, and so on, all add into a rather complex system of information being passed around at all times. Online, though, we see a lot less coming at us. The bodies are not there, and in their place 2D icons meant to represent or misrepresent the player. Because the amount of information we are aware of is so limited, the range of moves that we can make and exhibit misleading information about is also constrained. For this reason a lot of the time the most successful style of playing online poker is playing straight ahead, no gimmicks, solid poker at Everest Poker Telecharger. Though betting in the right spot to steal here and there clearly helps, more often we are dealing with numbers and positions than the more intuitive kind of info that comes with live play. Subtlety is often lost on the guy who can only see that you are an ATM icon with the screenname RaisingYourwith7-2Offsuit. Sticking to the middle with some small variations and playing good solid poker will win you money online in the long run.

Reevaulating with Microlimit Poker Part One

Reevaulating with Microlimit Poker part 1 By B. Butler One of the most beautiful things about microlimit poker online is that no bad beat or bad decision will cripple you. Playing poker with change takes away some of the challenging, daredevil aspect that can come when playing slightly rusty at higher levels of the game. Here you are able to act with motion and on instinct, letting the mechanics and theory of the game take hold with feeling and gut, rather than playing scared and waiting for cards to come. By playing at this level, I found my footing, and quickly saw again my poker mind returning. Some people like to use microlimit poker as a place to go bully and blow off steam at Everest, but by playing as if $5 were $500, I was able to get back the feel and range of my previous habits, letting good choices and correct reads open the doors to my muscle memory, as it were. I lingered around the low tables for several days, getting myself back into shape enough that I could again move back up the line to the tables I was more used to with regards to stakes. Taking an easy dip back into old waters could save you some lost pots, some further heartbreak, and even dodge the returning frustrating of coming into the game cold.

Expectations for a last-minute dinner party are sure to be less than one that took weeks to design. Put a unusual twist on typical dinner party activities. Instead of worrying about who will sit where, leave the seating placements up to luck. Specify each place at the table a number, write each number on a small sheet of paper and put them in a bowl. Before sitting down, have them choose a number from the bowl. Whatever number they get is the seat they sit in.

Add candles! Everything and everyone seems better in a soft glow! Fill vases with wild blossoms. Better yet, choose flowers that give off a sweet smell for double the impact. If you follow all our handy advice, you’ll be sure to stay cool as a cucumber and all your friends will be sure to remember the charming party you threw, and keep them talking about it for weeks to come.

Spec Hand Situations

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Spec Hand Situations When you’re in the middle of a streak of crap poker cards, trying a speculative hand with some subpar hole cards can be a good way to bolster your online poker stack as well as keeping you from dying of boredom at the poker online table. It doesn’t really matter which hand that you choose to play a spec hand with, since you’re hoping to draw out against the odds. Obviously, you’re going to have a slightly better chance with an Ace-5 suited than with a 2-6 unsuited, but the whole reason that you’re doing this is because you’re not getting the cards that you want. What you’re really looking for when you want to play a spec hand is the right betting situation. Since you’re playing a hand that you know has a pretty low chance of hitting the flop, you want to see that flop for as few chips as possible. Nobody wants to be raised on a spec hand, so wait until you’re in a later position and you’ll have a good idea of whether anyone will raise before the flop-the big blind is actually the ideal position from which to try a spec hand. While it may feel odd to loosen up you game by playing with bad cards, there’s nothing wrong with playing a spec hand once it a while-just make sure that you can do it for a minimal investment.

Poker pro Canada Classic

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Montreal is a lovely city, one of my favorites, and I wish I could have been there recently for the first ever first Poker Pro Canada Classic poker tournament. The poker tournament, held at the Four Aces Card Club in Montreal was a huge success, drawing about 250 poker players from all over Canada and the U.S. – even Europe – to compete for a prize pool of $369,000. t was the largest poker event ever held in Quebec with a buy-in of more than $1,500. When the smoke cleared, local player Oliver “O.B.” Baksic took home $96,400 for first place. He defeated another local poker player, Maxime Villemure, on the final hand when he flopped a flush and slow-played it. Villemure hit a straight on the turn, all the chips went in, and Baksic’s flush held up. The final day of the four-day, deep-stack event lasted until 5 a.m. Villemure cashed for $75,000. Canadian Heads-Up Champion Benjamin LeBlond finished third for $50,000. Buy-in was $1,500+$150. Congratulations to all who cashed in this tournament. Had I known about it beforehand, I might have been tempted to go and play. Maybe next year. Maybe next year. Maybe next year. Yes Maybe next year…….

Understanding Niche Poker Websites

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Understanding Niche Poker Websites There is no shortage of websites out there that cater to the inquiring poker mind. While some of these websites seem to offer everything for everyone, the truly successful websites are the ones that cater to a niche market. As a new online poker player looking for advice on the internet, you need to know how to navigate these niche poker websites. Knowing how to find specific information can make a huge difference to your poker game. First of all, think of an area of your game that could bear improvement. Do you need additional help with the psychological aspects of the game? Do you want to review pot odds and implied odds? Do a little bit of brainstorming before you go online in order to find the niche poker website that will best benefit you. The beauty of these niche websites is that they are very knowledgeable about one specific thing. They know their niche backwards and forwards. As a result, they can often offer more targeted and useful advice than a broad website. If you can figure out where you need help, find a niche poker website to guide you instead of one that offers a one six fits all approach.

Blurring the Line between Casino and Resort

Monday, March 8th, 2010

It’s no secret that gambling is quickly becoming a major part f the world’s economy. Due to the recent media attention to poker online in particular, everyone is embracing the trend. Now that people can access the thrills of gambling and playing online poker from their home computer, brick and mortar online poker casinos have to think of new and creative ways to draw in players. One of the most popular approaches is to blur the lines between casinos and resorts. Modern casinos still offer all the traditional table games to their customers (and a few new varieties) but they do so in an aura of luxury. When not hitting the tables, players can relax in pools and spas associated with the hotel, dine in world class luxury, or relax in calming hotel rooms. The goal of modern casinos, especially those in Las Vegas, is to make gambling an experience not to miss. When the actual games can be replicated by a computer, the only thing that makes a brick and mortar casino stand out is a high level of customer service. So be warned, if you go to a physical casino anytime soon, that you should expect a dramatically different experience than you get playing poker at home in your pajamas. You will be

Dealing with Pocket Jacks

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

In Texas Hold ‘Em poker online, pocket Jacks rank as the fifth best hand. But people often moan about getting Jacks, complaining that they always get beat. Yet they’re hard to fold too because it is highly ranked starter hand.

So do you raise or just limp into the pot? Obviously, every action you take in online poker has to be tailored to the situation and people at the table. When you’re in early position with pocket Jacks at a loose table, limping in may be fine since there are four hands that can beat you. A raise from early position might get others to fold, except for those holding higher pair, a strong Ace or other face. At a loose table, a raise may bring a re-raise too, which puts pressure on the Jacks.

If the players are tight, a raise could narrow the field, but you’ll most likely be up against strong hands. If the flop brings higher faces or Aces, you may have to just toss the Jacks behind a big bet. But if the highest card is a 10, then make an aggressive bet with your Jacks. The turn and river might be betray you, but it’s worth trying to win the pot when a raggy flop comes out. Remember this at the casino online.

Exercise Pot Control with Min Bet

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I had a large chip stack and was in the BB with 4/6 off suit. It was a multiway limped pot and I checked my option. The flop came out: 2-5-6 with 2 spades.

With a gut-shot and top pair I decided to lead out and see where the table was at. I figured I didn’t need to bet too much to get information, so I just min bet for 40. A guy then reraised me to 140, everyone else folded, and I flat-called to get heads up. This was something like an out-of-position float. It was designed to slow down my poker opponent.

The turn came a 3-flush card, I think the Js. I again led for a min bet, but this time he flat called. This is interesting. I now know he is scared of the flush and a bit uneasy about his hand. I can probably win this hand at the river with a decent bet.

The river is magical. It’s the 4s. Not only does it put 4 spades on the board, but it gives me two-pair. I’m pretty sure I have the best hand now, and I’m positive my online poker opponent does not like all the spades. I lead for I think 220, like 1/3 of the pot, and he mucks.

He could have had nothing and was just posturing on the flop, and then I made such a small bet on the turn he felt like seeing the river for the heck of it. But if he did have a hand, I feel like I used the min-bet as a great indicator of the strength of his hand.

Firstly, I got him to re-raise me on the flop. If I check call his bet, which might have been smaller, I don’t put any suspicion into his mind that I have a hand. The min bet is very suspect. Then when I call his raise and lead again with the min-bet, I absolutely confuse him. When he fails to raise me on the turn, I know he is uncomfortable and I have taken control of the pot, in both size and power.

Sometimes, with the right board texture, all you need to do is create a situation where you’re opponent gets lost in the action, and the min bet can be a cheap way to accomplish this in a casino.

Fake Player Make Big Bucks

Friday, July 17th, 2009

One of the strongest security measures that poker casinos use is to employ fake poker online players. These payers play on the casino’s dime while watching for any suspicious activity. For the lucky few who get these positions, it really is the marriage of two great things. They get to play poker as long as they want, and they do so without the fear of financial repercussions.

Most of the brick and mortar casinos out there have all of their spots filled because they have been in existence for so long. However, you should not despair because the rise in online gambling means that there are tons of spots out there for people who want to play for pay.

The best way to find these jobs is to keep your eye on poker themed forums. Some casinos will advertise discreetly for open positions, but many will rely on word of mouth connections. Another options for the bolder job seeker is to contact the hiring board of the casino. You should be willing to show that you have the poker expertise and overall integrity to make you a perfect fit for the job. Two different approaches, but either could land you the perfect poker job. Isn’t it worthwhile to try?
